@Duncan: To answer your question. True hits, aren’t representative for the absolute numbers of visitors but for the growth during 2009 all numbers show the same.

In 2009 we had:

- 264.720 visits from 1363 in 01-09 to 367.083 in 12-09.
- 42.441 unique vistors from 987 in 01-09 to 8700 in 12-09
- 2.6M page views from 87.000 in 01-09 to 367.083 in 12-09
- 486 GB traffic from 6 GB in 01-09 to 63 GB in 12-09

Pretty nice numbers if I say so myself and a huge increase during the year.
For blogs like your own or for instance Eric Sloof’s NTPro.nl these may not be significant but for a starting blog I think it’s impressive, don’t you agree?

The “unique visits” show the same trending, only with lower numbers. On the other hand, revisiting users are not taken into account, but they are important to the popularity of the site

These are two different indicators that, in our case, state the same. The indici by Google don’t augment when the popularity does. They are constants in the variable’s total. I could also state “total webtraffic in kb’s” or “pageviews”. All of those indicators show the same trend.

Everyone looks at the indicator he/she chooses. I don’t see the point of this discussion, really..

Wat is de waarde daarvan? Ik bijvoorbeeld bij mij in December de hits omhoog gaan met 300.000 maar het aantal unieke bezoekers licht dalen door de vakantie. Ik kijk persoonlijk nooit naar hits, Views/unique visits zegt veel meer. Bij hits heb je bijvoorbeeld google zitten die elke pagina indexed.

“So, all in all, 2009 was a pretty succesfull year for VMGuru.nl. December displayed a new record too. We passed the 1.5 million hits per month mark! This is more than 600% above the amount of hits we had in january! Needless to say, we are very happy to see so many people on our site (and a bit proud too, tbh ) I made a little statistic to show you how we did in 2009. It displays the amount of hits per month in 2009 from january to december, with december as top of the year.”
